My very first workout session with Brooke Johnson was supposed to be all about stretching, cooling down, and catching the air in our lungs after pushing through the routines. But as we moved into the final cooldown, I noticed Brooke start to wobble just a little, their legs shaking, their balance slipping. They brushed it off, insisting they were fine, and we laughed about powering through like champs. One second they were upright, and the next, Brooke was on the floor right in front of me. Adrenaline surged through me and I remember I've trained for this. I dropped down to their side, checking for responsiveness, feeling the rush of urgency take over as my instincts kicked in. They're responding! My hands pressed firmly against her chest, the rhythm of CPR taking over as I counted each push. Their chest rose beneath my resus efforts, my lips sealing over hers as I put life back into her body. Their body jolted beneath me and finally they returned!
